Work on restoration of the nave ceiling is now complete and we anticipate St. Peter’s will be reopen from the end of July. The lath and plaster have been completely replaced and the decorations have been repaired and refixed. The ceiling is now a Georgian blue rather than the very dark colour applied in the 1960s.
The grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will enable us to share information about the heritage of St. Peter’s and what we have learnt during the work and with a wider audience.
This website will share our experiences and learning as we progress with the restoration and development of St. Peter’s.
Roll up banners will be produced which can be placed around the church at strategic points to explain significant features of the church.
A talk and lime plaster demonstration in June enabled visitors to learn about conservation techniques and how the special features of the St. Peter’s ceiling have been preserved.
Members of three historic churches in Cheshire will be joining together for a workshop on welcoming visitors and giving guided tours so that our visitors get a good visitor experience. This will be led by the Tourism Officer from the National Churches Trust.
The church will be open on Tuesdays and Saturdays 10am – 2pm from August to the end of October and we will be participating in the Heritage Open Days and the Congleton Heritage and Antiques Fair.
Please see our Events page for details. We look forward to welcoming you.
